The Drug-Free Safety Program (DFSP) offers a premium discount through the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) to eligible employers for implementing a loss-prevention strategy addressing workplace use and misuse of alcohol and other drugs, especially illegal drugs. The DFSP is designed to help employers more effectively prevent on-the-job injuries and illness by integrating drug-free efforts into their overall workplace safety program. The DFSP can help employers achieve both long-range safety and cost-saving benefits.
Drug-Free Workplace Program Vendors
The Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (OhioMHAS), in partnership with BWC, maintains a directory of vendors who are offering services to assist employers with the development and implementation of a DFSP. OhioMHAS and BWC make no representations regarding the quality of services provided and expressly advise those who utilize these services to choose with care. Employers may use any qualified vendor whether or not the vendor is listed in the Directory. For guidance in selecting a vendor, employers may refer to the DFSP Self-Implementation Workbook. However, employers must rely upon their own judgment and take full responsibility for vendor selection.

The federal Substance Abuse Mental Health and Services Administration (SAMHSA) offers additional resources for drug-free workplaces. The SAMHSA Division of Workplace Programs provides oversight for the Federal Drug-Free Workplace Program and the National Laboratory Certification Program, which certifies laboratories to conduct forensic drug testing for the federal agencies and for some federally regulated industries.
