Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) Reimbursement Program for County Jails

OhioMHAS will provide reimbursement to counties for the cost of certain drugs that are dispensed to inmates of county jails in Ohio. The amount of $2 million has been allotted for each fiscal year in the biennium (SFY 2022 and 2023).

Eligible drugs include those used for opioid and alcohol treatment. Process for Reimbursement for SFY 2022 shall be submitted by the county sheriff’s office for the following periods identified below.

Failure to submit reimbursement requests by the identified dates will result in the request being denied.

  • July 1, 2021 – December 31, 2021 – submitted by February 15, 2022
  • January 1, 2022 – June 30, 2022 – submitted by August 15, 2022

The total reimbursement amount available for SFY 2022 is $2 million. Of the total amount, $1,000,000 is available for each reporting period.

A county jail will receive reimbursement based on their jail’s percentage of the total amount of reimbursement requested across all jails participating in the program. For example, if a county jail accounts for 1% of the total amount requested for the reporting period, the jail would receive $10,000.00.

The reimbursement shall be itemized on the MAT Entry Form and include the number of prescriptions for each allowable drug and the cost.

The template should be submitted to OhioMHAS at MATjailreimbursement@mha.ohio.gov.
