First responders stand ready to serve and protect their communities and citizens, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They often sacrifice time with their families, their physical health and well-being, and all too often, their mental health. The emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in additional stressors for first responders. Using CARES funding, we are pleased to announce free trainings for community-based licensed clinicians to prepare them to provide services to first responders (law enforcement, fire, EMS, dispatch/communications and local corrections) and their families. After attending the Treating the First Responder training, clinicians will better understand some of the unique risks facing Ohio’s Public Safety personnel in addition to resources that are available to them as members of the First Responder community. Upon completion of the Treating the First Responder training, appropriately licensed clinicians can choose either Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
Training Dates: November 5, November 17th, and November 19th Training: Virtual didactic Requires: 6 hours of lecture and a minimum of a one-hour group follow-up consultation 6 CEU Credits will be available for participants.
All training and consultation will be virtual in support of Ohio’s COVID-19 safety guidelines. All participants must participate in one of the Treating First Responders training opportunities. Upon completion of the Treating the First Responder training, appropriately licensed clinicians can choose either TFCBT or EMDR. An application must be completed by interested clinicians. Training sessions will be limited to a maximum of 30 clinicians. Stipends for participation in the lecture part of either TF-CBT or EMDR will be provided to the clinicians’ agency to partially support participation of the clinician.
