The Ohio Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services (OhioMHAS), along with the National Alliance on Mental Illness Ohio, the Ohio Council of Behavioral Healthcare Providers and the Ohio Association of County Behavioral Health Authorities are partnering to inform consumers, family members and mental health service providers about the Medicare Modernization Act (MMA) prescription drug program.

Consumers Being Turned Away at Pharmacies
OhioMHAS has contacted CMS to alert them of situations brought to our attention where consumers are being turned away at the pharmacy without their prescriptions being filled. They asked that we continue to recommend to beneficiaries that they work through the normal channels to resolve their issues by going to either the plan sponsor or 1-800-Medicare.

If you hear of specific incidents, especially beneficiaries being turned away at the counter, please collect and provide us with as much of the following information as possible:

  1. Beneficiary information (name, address, city, state, zip code, telephone number and/or email address)
  2. Medicare HICN (Health Insurance Card number)
  3. Prescription drug plan name
  4. Pharmacy where incident occurred
  5. Date of incident
  6. Nature of the complaint

Please forward this information to MH_PARTD@mha.state.oh.us. This information will in turn be forwarded to our CMS Regional Office caseworkers for resolution.
