Information For Family Members and Visitors

Admission
Local mental health centers refer patients to Summit Behavioral Healthcare by determining whether someone meets criteria for admission. Unfortunately, we are not able to provide service for direct admissions or "walk-ins." Please contact your local mental health center for assistance.

Services provided
Summit Behavioral Healthcare provides recovery-based inpatient services to civil and forensic mentally ill adults.

Family and Visitors
Family and friends may visit their loved ones but not bring items such as: alcohol, drugs, glass, weapons, metal cans, metal hangers, scissors, razors, electrical cords or radios / televisions, tape recorders, cameras, tools, lighters or matches.

Visiting Hours
Monday through Friday, 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Saturday/Sunday and Holidays, 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Additional times will be added for Christmas, New Year's Eve, Easter and Thanksgiving holidays.

Check in for visitation begins 15 minutes prior to the scheduled visiting times. Visitors are requested to arrive at least 30 minutes before visitation ends.

Patients are able to visit the entire visiting period or as long as their visitors can stay. Visitors are requested to visit with only one patient at a time unless the patients are related. We stress only four visitors per patient per visit.

Summit Behavioral Healthcare is a non-smoking facility. Patients, visitors and staff may not smoke on the campus grounds or in any of the buildings.

Visitation Procedures for the High Level Forensic Patients:

  • Visitation shall occur during special Forensic Visitation times, (8:00pm to 9:00pm, Monday and Tuesday or 8:30pm to 9:30pm, Tuesday through Thursday).
  • Visitors will be pre-screened by the Treatment Team and if approved, placed on an approved visitor’s list.  Visits shall be approved by the patient’s Treatment Team and will be arranged by the Social Worker during Forensic Visitation times on a “first come, first served” basis.
  • No visitors other than those pre-approved by the Treatment Team will be permitted.
  • Visitation shall be limited to one (1) visitor at a time.
  • Visitation shall be pre-scheduled at least twenty-four (24) hours in advance and limited up to thirty (30) minutes.
  • Visitors may not bring any items to the patient during the visit, but may deposit money into the patient’s account.
  • All visitors will be “wanded” (or, if suspicion exists, subject to search) prior to visiting.
  • Visitation shall be monitored through direct supervision by Campus Police.
